One of the Charities that MANZA is very proud to work with is RC Deaf Mission Malaysia, founded by Agnes and Mario Peter in 2006. The Charity seeks to provide career opportunities for deaf people in Malaysia and change the perception amongst the general community of people who are hearing impaired. MANZA is a long time supporter of this very worthy cause.
Recently they have relocated their office and opened a RC Deaf Café at No 55G, Jalan SS 25/2, Taman Bukit Emas, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
If you are in that part of the world, please do pop in for coffee or try one of their delicious meals and let them know you are from MANZA!
Sadly we had to say goodbye to another of our long time MANZA Mahjong players today! Carolyn has been in KL for four years and is now heading back to Europe with her husband. She treated us to champagne and cake with our mahjong (we really do things in style at MANZA!) and afterwards we lunched at Pinch restaurant in Bangsar.
Bon Voyage Carolyn, safe travels and happy Mahjonging in the future! Please come and see us if you are back in KL! ????
It’s nearly that time of year again! Christmas is just around the corner and time to start thinking about all those Christmas presents, decorations and delicious Christmas fare we have to buy.
Come along to MANZA’S annual Charity Christmas Bazaar on Sunday 24th November at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Centre and have a fun family day out, while finding special treasures to put under the Christmas Tree. The fun kicks off at 11am until 4pm.
Look forward to seeing you there! For more information, please check out www.manzamembers.org.
MANZA was invited by TEG to a coffee morning at the Oakwood Hotel and Residence to watch a presentation by Dr Aslannif Roslan, a top Cardiologist from the IJN, (Institut Jantung Negara), the National Heart Institute.
We were welcomed by Mr Ramesh Ronald, The General Manager of the Oakwood Hotel (which has just been renovated) and the hotel kindly served complimentary coffee and tea with refreshments, as well as a light lunch during the break, when two lucky guests won door prizes generously provided by The Oakwood Hotel.
Dr Roslan started his presentation by telling us that many years ago after Dr Mahathir had his first heart attack, (and he insisted on having his by-passes performed by surgeons in Malaysia and not travel to Singapore) he wanted Malaysia to have a world class Heart Facility and the INL, National Heart Institute, was born.
Dr Roslan discussed with us common and not so common heart problems, as well as the latest treatment options and in particular how the IJN, National Heart Institute, has 6 top cardiac specialists on duty 24 hours a day! We all came home with the hospital’s Ambulance and Telephone details firmly entered into our mobile phones. He told us that very often with complicated cardiac cases, other hospitals send their patients to the IJN for their expertise.
It was such a fascinating morning and the time just sped by. I think we could all have carried on all afternoon, listening to Dr Roslan. He was so passionate about his field of medicine and we were shown videos of him performing echo-cardiograms and other procedures whilst he explained how to read them and interpret the results. He also showed us a video of what he called a simple procedure (!) inserting a pacemaker into a patient’s heart. It really was spellbinding and he was equally happy to answer our numerous questions.
Dr Roslan’s top tips to try and prevent a heart attack and heart disease:
• If you have high blood pressure get it under control urgently • Take statins if you have high cholesterol • Stop Smoking • Stop or severely limit alcohol • Control Diabetes as this is a leading cause of heart disease • Eat a healthy diet • Exercise at least 30 mins a day, five days a week, and be panting slightly at the end
And go straight to hospital if you have any of these symptoms: Chest pain (like someone heavy sitting on your chest), pain down both arms, profuse sweating, violent vomiting. If you can get there within an hour for treatment there will be very little damage to your heart muscle.
There was so much other information he gave us. Make sure you are there next time!
MANZA held it’s first Trivia Night Saturday, 7th September, and it was a sell out and a resounding success! Thank you to everyone who contributed to a great night, from our wonderful Quiz Master, and Events Co-ordinator, Carmel, who organised the whole evening; everyone who helped with the organisation and especially to all our guests who came and made the night such fun.
On arrival we were greeted with stunning 360 degree views of Kuala Lumpur from the top of Sentral Residences and that was reason enough to be there!
After quenching our thirst and enjoying a satisfying buffet dinner, it was heads down, pens in hand, concentrating on the questions being fired out by Carmel. They were certainly no walk in the park! We were tested time and time again.
One of the central reasons for MANZA existing is to help with charities in Malaysia and this evening we were so proud to raise RM1,500 which will go towards buying hearing aids for under-privileged, hearing-impaired children in Malaysia. Thank you so much to the enormous generosity of everyone who attended and bought raffle tickets or donated to the cause. It makes all the work worthwhile.
Despite fierce competition and teams being neck and neck
through the night, it was The Warriors Team that took first prize! Congratulations on fantastic work
ladies! They were followed in close
second place by The Trivial Sharks and third place went to the Multiple Scoregasms
(the writer of this brief account of the night was on this table and has to
confess it was a two-woman team that almost single-handedly carried us to this
prestigious third place! Thank you Lisa
It was another late night as tired but happy people made their way back down to the ground floor and headed home! See you all at the next Trivia Night for another epic battle!
