MANZA’s new book club will meet for the first time at MANZA House on Wednesday 5th May at 7:30pm. You are invited to bring up to three book suggestions and help select our first book for the year. Enjoy a glass of wine and a chat with fellow book lovers. The book club will continue to meet on the first Wednesday of every month, all meetings free for members, 10RM for non-members.
Unfortunately MANZA is obliged to postpone the Annual General Meeting scheduled for this Wednesday 21st April, 7pm at MANZA House. Our sincere apologies for the late notice. We will post an update within the next few days as soon as we are able to set a new date. Please keep an eye on our Facebook or website for the latest updates. Thank you.
While it may have been a month or so late, it was so exciting for MANZA to finally host our Waitangi Day and Australia Day celebration in conjunction with the Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce.
Over 50 guests gathered at Out of Africa Restaurant & Kudu Bar for a fun-filled afternoon of games, swimming, food and drinks. It was particularly enjoyable for many Australians and New Zealanders from the two organisations to connect for the first time. The buffet spread from Out of Africa was delicious as always, and the children’s thirsts were quenched by chocolate milk sponsored by Fonterra.
Young and old participants joined in the egg and spoon race, three legged race and thong (or jandal) in the hole, with some fantastic prizes generously sponsored by Bluestar AMG and CarePark. Prizes for the raffle included wine from MANZA’s regular sponsor Cyril at AGS, an authentic Akubra hat from Christine Lawder, a meat pack and book voucher.
After a long year of on and off lockdowns with very little to celebrate, it was a huge relief to see this event go off without a hitch. We hope this will be the first of many more social occasions throughout the rest of the year.
MANZA House has been buzzing over the last two weeks as we welcomed back our members for regular activities including Mahjong, Bridge and Craft. While we are not yet at full capacity, it has been wonderful to reconnect with friends, meet newcomers and resume some aspects of normal life.
Last Thursday was a particularly festive occasion as we finally held a welcome back coffee morning, originally scheduled pre-Christmas! What was to be mulled wine, made with wine generously donated by Asian Tigers, became delicious sangria. The MANZA committee supplied a decadent array of treats and the attendees all enjoyed their morning out. With wine to spare we also held a small raffle meaning we were able to raise some much-needed funds for our regular charities.
We look forward to seeing more of our members return to the house in the coming weeks, and will keep you all informed of further activities to be scheduled soon.
To celebrate the move from MCO to CMCO, MANZA would like to welcome members and friends back to MANZA House for a socially distanced coffee morning on Thursday 18th March at 10am. Ticket price of RM20 for members and RM30 for non-members will include tea, coffee, homemade goodies and some delicious sangria with wine very kindly sponsored by Asian Tigers.
Numbers will be strictly limited in accordance with SOPs so please register prior to the day at [email protected] You can also renew your membership before or on the day at the special reduced price of RM150 per family.
MANZA is delighted to announce we will be back open for our regular activities at MANZA House commencing Monday 8th March with Mahjong, Wednesday 10th with Bridge, and Friday 12th with Craft. Numbers are strictly limited in accordance with SOPs so please register your attendance in advance. Don’t forget your mask and be prepared for a temperature check and registration of details on arrival.
If you’d like to join any of these groups, please contact [email protected] so we can connect you with the relevant coordinator.
Keep an eye on our website or Facebook for further announcements on upcoming events. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Over the past years, MANZA has worked with a number of charities endeavouring to make a difference to people’s lives. One of the charities has been The Reading Room, located in Kajang. The Reading Room is run by an amazing woman called Susie Devaki and she has asked us if we can put a message out to our members as they are in a fairly dire state due to COVID and the effect that this has had on their fund-raising abilities which supports their ongoing needs.
Unfortunately due to our own circumstances in MANZA, we are not currently able to provide financial support, as we were doing, but hopefully that will change as 2021 progresses.
For those who aren’t aware of what Susie does at The Reading Room, the facility focuses on caring for local children before and after school whose parents work or are marginalised in caring for them in some way. Children receive additional tuition – as they would generally attend daily school, and a daily meal. However, since March last year, they have been bringing students to the centre to help them to do their school work – online classes – and provide food. They are then sent back early in the afternoon and the centre brings another group of students who stay until later in the day. Due to the current restrictions, they are bringing in 10 students for 2 hours and they are socially distanced whilst there studying. They are currently trying to cover 40 students a day which is almost half the number they would generally assist, and this is of course due to the COVID restrictions however, lack of funds is a major concern.
Following is a list of monthly requirements so that The Reading Room can continue to operate. Food items are a priority however equally important are financial donations. If anyone can assist with food items or with financial donations, no matter how large or small, it would be gratefully appreciated.
Rent: RM850 pm
Food costs amount to RM1,800 pm (see list below of food items)
Transportation – this is collecting and transporting the students: RM700 pm
Bills: RM300 pm
Utilities: RM150 pm
Salaries: RM1,500 x 2 pm -= RM3,000 pm
To hopefully assist with gathering food donations ONLY and then taking them down to The Reading Room, we will be at MANZA House next WEDNESDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2021 between 10 am and 12 noon. Kindly note that non-perishable items can only be accepted. Please also note that SOP’s will be followed, so face masks, temperature taking and registration will be mandatory at MANZA. The list of food items required is quite extensive, so we have put below key items – again, that this list is the monthly requirements to feed the children:
Rice – 80 kg
Oil – 10 kg
Sugar – 10 kg
Milo – 15 kg pm
Fernleaf milk powder – 1.8 kg x 4
Dhaal – 5 kg
Evaporated milk – 5 tins
Condensed milk – 8 tins
Sardines – big tins
Flour – 6 kg
Babas fish powder, chicken curry powder, chilli powder – each 3 x 3 kg
Light and dark soy sauce – 3 large bottles each
Biscuit crackers – 1 big tin
If you are able to assist with a financial donation, below are the bank details for The Reading Room. There is also a contact number for Susie and her email address should you wish to contact her directly.
Business Name: Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Kajang
Acc No: 8600468573

On behalf of MANZA and The Reading Room, we thank you most sincerely for your generosity and if you can spread the word around to others about The Reading Room and the wonderful work they do, it would be appreciated. Perhaps some other sponsors may like to help them out too.
MANZA is looking for a volunteer to coordinate a fortnightly newsletter to our members. Now that we are no longer producing a monthly magazine, we would love to use this newsletter to keep members up to date on what’s happening at MANZA, share interesting stories, and update members on special offers from our sponsors. This person will work closely with other committee members who will supply most of the content for the newsletters. Your role will be to collate and lay out the content and ensure its timely delivery. If you think you can help or you’d like to discuss further, please get in touch with Georgina at [email protected].
As we enter another strange year of uncertainty under the cloud of a Movement Control Order, unfortunately MANZA will not be able to proceed with our traditional event to usher in the new year and welcome our members back to KL, which was originally planned for 30th January between Australia Day and Waitangi Day.
However, we are hopeful that conditions will improve in Malaysia and we look forward to welcoming you all for a day of family friendly games and delicious food at Out of Africa on Saturday 20th March from 11am-5pm. This event will be hosted in conjunction with the Malalysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce. As well as the food and fun there will be some fantastic prizes on offer.
Once again the CMCO extension in Kuala Lumpur has foiled our plans, and unfortunately MANZA’s Christmas coffee morning planned for Tuesday 21st December will not go ahead. The delicious red wine that was to be mulled for Christmas is now destined for sangria in January! We promise to reschedule a coffee morning as soon as we can in the new year.
If you can, please help us support regular MANZA charity, the Reading Room, by making a donation directly. Bank details are as follows:
Name: Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Kajang
Acc No: 8600468573
Phone: +6012 628 0207

MANZA has supported a number of charities over the past years and one of them is The Reading Room – located in Kajang.
The Reading Room focuses on caring for local children – aged between 7 and 17 years – before and after school whose parents work or are marginalised in caring for them in some way. Children receive tuition and a daily meal. More than 80 children receive these daily meals. Food costs alone for the centre run at more than RM1,500 per month and they desperately need ongoing assistance to provide these meals.
With Christmas in mind, and particularly with our Christmas Coffee Morning hopefully happening, on Tuesday 22nd December, we would very much appreciate donations of non-perishable foods brought along on the day that we can deliver to the Reading Room.
Just an idea of some of what they require includes:
- Rice (Cap Rambutan)
- Oil (Cap Sri Murni)
- Fernleaf milk powder
- Babas fish and/or chicken curry powder
- Sardines – big tins
- Bee Hoon – big packets
- Packets of dhaal
If you can’t make it to our coffee morning but would like to help support the Reading Room please get in touch. We thank you for your support!
Due to the extension of the CMCO in Kuala Lumpur until 20th December, sadly MANZA’s Christmas coffee morning will be postponed. We plan to go ahead with this event on Tuesday 22nd December at 10am, all other details as per our original flyer. Please do get in touch if you’d like to attend!
As we all know, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges for everyone, and particularly for charities which rely entirely on donations to survive. One of MANZA’s regularly supported charities, RC Deaf Missions Malaysia, is struggling to sustain their 14 year mission of enhancing deaf livelihood.
Christmas charity bazaars which are normally organised by associations like MANZA to generate income have been cancelled this year. Therefore, RC Deaf Missions have taken this initiative to showcase all their in-house sewn merchandise on their website for you to shop safely and comfortably from your home.
Everything you see here is designed and made by talented deaf folks. We hope you will find them beautiful and worthy as gifts to yourself and your loved ones. Thank you for your orders. Your support means so much.http://www.rcdeafmissionsmalaysia.com/…/christmasblessing/
MANZA was sadly forced to postpone our annual Pink October morning tea due to the CMCO, but there is still time to support the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation and breast cancer survivors. We have some PRWF merchandise available for purchase – caps, socks, t-shirts (in quick dry fabric), keyrings, pins, and notepad and pens. If you would like to make a purchase and/or a donation – any amount helps! – please contact [email protected] and we will get back to you.
All funds raised will go to the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, run entirely by breast cancer survivor volunteers. We appreciate all your support for this wonderful cause.
As you will be aware, the government announced that Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya will be placed under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) effective midnight 14th October. In accordance with the CMCO, recreational and social activities are not allowed to take place between 14th and 27th October. MANZA House will therefore be closed to visitors, and all activities including Mahjong, Bridge, Craft group and coffee mornings will be postponed. Unfortunately our Pink October morning tea scheduled for 26th October will also be postponed. We hope to reschedule this event when restrictions ease and will still have merchandise available for purchase to support the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation.
We also hoped to share with you details of our low key, SOP-friendly Melbourne Cup function on November 3rd. However, due to the current uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 case numbers and the likelihood of restrictions being extended beyond the current timeframe, we feel it would not be in our members’ best interests to proceed with this event. The safety of our members and the broader community must always be our highest priority. We will resume our regular activities and special events as soon as possible.
Thank you all for your understanding. Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Join us to raise money for breast cancer patients and survivors at our annual Pink October morning tea. As always strict SOPs will be in place – wear your mask, maintain distance and record temperature and contact details on arrival. Attendance will be limited to ensure proper distancing so please advise your attendance in comments below or by emailing [email protected].
Some fantastic Pink Ribbon merchandise is available for purchase on the day, or you can purchase from MANZA House at our Mahjong, Bridge and Craft sessions during the week. If you can’t make it to the morning tea but would like to make a donation or grab yourself a t-shirt, hat or pin, feel free to contact us to make an appointment at the House. We always appreciate the great support of our members for this wonderful cause.
In light of recent increases in COVID-19 cases across Malaysia, we would like to remind our members to continue following SOPs and keep yourselves and others safe – especially at MANZA! We plan to continue gathering for our regular weekly activities and other special events in the coming months, and the committee will do everything we can to stay safe at MANZA House.
When visiting MANZA House, please wear a mask, ensure you take your temperature and record your details on arrival, and wash your hands regularly. Keep a safe distance from others and avoid physical contact.
The MANZA committee and our partners at Malaysia Health Travel Council have decided to postpone the coffee morning and health talk scheduled for Monday 12th October. We will provide details of a new date for this event, as well as our Pink October coffee morning, as soon as possible.
Our weekly Mahjong, Bridge and Craft Groups will continue to meet at MANZA House. A reminder to all attendees that we have resumed collecting non-perishable food items for one of our charities, The Reading Room, and we appreciate any contributions you can bring when you attend these activities. Charities across Malaysia have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and any contributions we can make will make a huge difference.
Thank you all for your support!
The committee was pleased to welcome new, old and returning members back to MANZA House this morning for the first time since the MCO. We are delighted to have the ongoing support of our community.
We look forward to our Craft group resuming this Friday, with Bridge and Mahjong to resume in the coming weeks once we confirm the best days for our members. If you are interested in joining any of these activities please comment below, send a DM or email [email protected] and we will add you to the relevant WhatsApp group.
Don’t forget that SOPs are in place for all activities at the house – wear a mask, maintain social distance and register your details on arrival. We also appreciate you renewing your membership if you participate in these groups to help keep MANZA alive.
We are pleased to welcome back our members for some of our regular activities at MANZA House. We will begin with a welcome back morning tea at the house on Wednesday 19th August at 10:30am. This is an opportunity to meet the new committee, renew your membership and find out about our plans for the future. We will be fundraising on the day for the Alliance of Chin Refugees (ACR). MANZA will resume mahjong, bridge and craft groups in the coming weeks. Please note that SOPs will be in place at the house for all activities to ensure compliance with government regulations. All attendees must wear a face mask, maintain social distance, have their temperature taken and leave contact details on arrival at the house. Please register your attendance at [email protected].
We would also like to encourage all those who have let their memberships expire, or regular group attendees who paid for each visit, to renew your membership for the remainder of 2020 (100RM). As most of you are aware the MCO has left MANZA unable to raise any income since March and we have had to stop supporting our charities. Your support in renewing your membership will help MANZA recover some of our losses and we hope to resume support of our charities as soon as possible.
We had a great turn out for Christmas Drinks last night at the residence of HE the New Zealand High Commissioner Hunter Nottage and his lovely wife Sara, who so kindly opened up their stunning home to us.
Members and friends of MANZA, MNZCC (the Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce) and MABC (the Malaysia Australia Business Council) met and mingled over drinks and canapes in the tranquil surrounds of the Residence on a beautiful, balmy evening.
MANZA organised a raffle for Charity and as always our guests opened their hearts and their wallets and by the time ticket sales closed and the Raffle was drawn RM1,700 had been raised for MANZA charities. As always a huge thank you to everyone for your incredible generosity!
This will be the last official function for MANZA in 2019 and it just remains for us to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy new year 2020!
Enjoy the photos!
Our bumper December 2019 – January 2020 MANZA magazine has just hit the stands! It’s been a very busy couple of months at MANZA with our successful Melbourne Cup Lunch, MANZA Christmas Bazaar and several other functions raising much needed funds for our worthwhile charities and we were all able to enjoy the events at the same time – a double bonus!
Once again thank you to our Editor Georgina and all the other hard working volunteers who make all this possible! Please click below to read and enjoy the latest MANZA Magazine!

What a busy weekend we have just had at MANZA. Our Christmas Charity Bazaar was held at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Centre on Sunday and we had a dedicated team of MANZA volunteers working hard on decorating the ballroom and terrace for six hours on Saturday. It was lovely getting into the spirit of Christmas and putting up our first Christmas tree of the year!
Sunday morning our valued vendors arrived early to start setting up their glittering stalls. We were extremely lucky this year to have students from Sunway College as volunteers and these young men and women worked so hard all day, always with a smile on their faces and willing to do whatever was asked.
By the time the bazaar opened at 11.00am the Equestrian Club was transformed. There were so many fascinating stalls with a wide variety of beautiful wares for sale.
MANZA’s Trash and Treasure was a favourite of the day and we had a run on donated leather shoes for men! Ladies scooped up many of the beautiful clothes that had been donated and many kitchen appliances went home to happy new owners.
Our always popular cake stall sold out well before the bazaar closed and our Tombola and Book Stall did incredibly well. And whilst the ladies shopped, their husbands were able to enjoy a few beverages overlooking the beautiful pool at the Equestrian Club, whilst their children enjoyed our kids’ activities including face painting, crafts, a bouncy castle and sumo wrestling.
Our Craft Ladies meet up every Friday at MANZA and create works of art. Sales at their stall were excellent – such a contribution to our Charity Funds. Thank you ladies!
All these profits go to MANZA’s charities, so thank you so much to all our stall holders, everyone who donated cakes, clothes, books and their time as well as those who took time out of their valuable weekend to come and have fun on the day. A special thank you to our Charities Co-Ordinator Martha, who as always worked tirelessly and quietly in the background for several months to put everything together.
And finally a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors Asian Tigers and AGS whose sponsorship is so important to the success of MANZA.
MANZA would like to thank Asian Tigers for kindly sponsoring our official photographers for the Melbourne Cup Lunch on Tuesday. The photos are now available and here’s the link to the photographs. You can download any you would like to keep! Enjoy!
Well the MANZA Melbourne Cup at the Grand Hyatt was such a fabulous, fun day on Tuesday 5th November! It’s always so amazing to see the enormous effort put into the beautiful hats, fascinators and outfits worn by both ladies and the men, and today was no exception! And the photos can speak for themselves! (The professional photos aren’t available yet, so there will be more coming!)
Thank you to everyone who came and made it such a success. We really appreciate your support, as the Committee puts a lot of work into organising these events and to see such a great turnout was very rewarding for us.
The bubbles, West Winds Gin, (which was a favourite of the day, with many comments about the excellent quality of the Gin) wine and beer flowed smoothly all day. Thank you to Callan Green from West Winds for the generous sponsorship.
The race was beamed in on very large screens around the room, so we could all see and feel the excitement building up at Flemington whilst the Calcutta was being called and tables were vying against one another for the winning horse!
And the winner is….. no 23, Vow And Declare To Table No 1! Congratulations!
The day flew by so fast, a delicious lunch was followed by the Raffle Draw Prizes as well as prizes for Fashions on the Field. It was a difficult task for the judges and we just wish everyone could have been given a prize as the ensembles were stunning!
Bluestar Amg kindly donated a brand new Iphone 11 as a Lucky Draw Prize and there was a very happy winner of this valuable prize!
We then danced the afternoon away. It was nearly 6pm before the last of our guests left the Ballroom to head home, some of us to an early bed, but we’re sure the party carried on into the night somewhere else!
We would also like to thank Asian Tigers for their continued wonderful support of MANZA, Air Asia and Mandara Spa, as well as Laguna Resort and Spa in Bali, and Bali National Golf and Country Club. Thanks also to Joss Hindmarsh Millinery, the Grand Hyatt, Sao Nam Restaurant, Ramsay Sime Darby, Pearlz Etc by Priti Kumar, Milestone Productions and Bill Cooper from TEG. A really big heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors.
Please enjoy our information packed November edition of our MANZA Magazine, hot off the press! Thank you to our stellar team that works so hard to put this together and in particular our editor Georgina. We have so much going on in November at MANZA from our exciting Melbourne Cup Luncheon this Tuesday, dinner clubs, our Christmas Charity Bazaars, coffee mornings, etc. Make sure you don’t miss out. Thank you so much to the Pink Ribbon Foundation for their very informative presentation at our Pink October Coffee Morning in aid of Breast Cancer, at MANZA House this morning.
Whilst we all know we need Vitamin D, we were educated today on the importance of ensuring we have sufficient levels of this incredibly important Vitamin. It can affect the outcome of many diseases and today we learnt of its importance in helping to protect us from breast cancer and slowing down cancer in women already diagnosed with the disease, so make sure you get your 15 or 20 minutes of sunshine each day!
We also had the privilege of listening to Myrna, a Breast Cancer Survivor, who shared the story of her journey fighting the disease with the support of friends, family and the Pink Ribbon Foundation. Thank you, Myrna, we were very moved. You can read her story on Page 22 of our MANZA October magazine which is available on our website at www.manza.org.
We would like to thank our sponsors Asian Tigers today for their generous sponsorship of our raffle prizes and we were able to raise over RM550 for the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
Thank you once again to everyone who gave so generously to this great cause.
Thank you so much to the lovely people who came out on a stormy Friday night in bad traffic to support the MANZA PINK OCTOBER Drinks Night at Barat Restaurant in Bangsar.
It was a perfect venue upstairs at Barat and the staff looked after us so well all night. As always, the light refreshments they provided to accompany our drinks were fabulous.
AGS International Movers kindly sponsored the night and there were some great prizes up for grabs in the raffle. They are always such a generous sponsor.
Apart from a fun night meeting new friends, we were able to raise just over RM800 for the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation which will go towards the purchase of a new Mammogram machine to be used in small villages in Malaysia.
Thank you again to everyone who came! Enjoy the photos!
A timely reminder as it is October and Breast Awareness Month to, “Check those Puppies”.
And don’t forget to come and support our Pink October Drinks Night at the very popular Barat Restaurant in Bangsar on Friday 11th October.
If you are able to join us that night, apart from having a great night with good friends over a few drinks and nibbles, you will also be helping the Pink Wellness Centre in its goal of purchasing a new Mammogram machine for use in small villages.
Come along and have a great evening with our friendly MANZA family! Please register that you are coming at: https://manzamembers.org/event/13 so we can advise numbers to the restaurant!
Look forward to seeing you there!
MANZA’s Annual Christmas Charity Bazaar will be held on the 24th November this year at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Centre.
We would like to invite Vendors to MANZA House on Monday 7th October between 8am and 10.30am to book your tables for this very popular, well attended, MANZA event.
Be sure to get there on time to pick the best spots for your product display! Put the date in your diary now! Don’t miss out!
